Voluptuous Wines from Piedmont

My husband, a sommelier, and I had a tour and tasting last April with Beppe Pescaja, and shipped nine bottles of his wines home to Phoenix, Arizona. They were that good! We think his Barbera blends are among the best from the region. And his Arneis…I had never heard of Arneis, and fell in love with it!

This year, in May, we had the pleasure of a tasting with Beppe’s delightful wife, who could not have been more accommodating. Once again, we were hard-pressed (no pun intended) to limit our purchases!

I hate to hold one Pescaja wine up over another; it would be like comparing your children! Each has its talents, and I tasted none that I could not imagine enjoying with a certain meat, cheese, or chocolate hazlenut dessert. But we are partial to the Barbera blended with Cabernet,
with its lush flavors and smooth finish.

I haven’t tasted them all, but I doubt there's a bad one!

Pescaja winery was founded in 1990 by Beppe Pescaja and is located in the region of Piedmont, North-West Italy, between Cisterna d’Asti and Nizza Monferrato, around 50 km from Turin. The vineyards are mainly located in ā€œRoeroā€, ā€œLangheā€, and the ā€œColline Alfieriā€ in the area of ā€œdel Monferratoā€; three zones that are particularly suited to vine growing.Beppe has made exceptional reds in Piedmont region focusing his attention on Barbera and Nebbiolo.
Dark, rich crimson in the glass with a subtle brightening rim. Opens in the nose on ripe plums and cherries, appears warm. Spreads out in the mouth with light carbonic acid, dark fruity, slim body, dry in the finish. - Falstaff

Pescaja Soliter is a robust and voluptuous red with an intense ruby color. Inviting and fresh on the nose, it is rich in red fruits and balsamic memories. In the mouth, the rich strawberry jam is surprising first, which then leaves a very pleasant freshness. Perfect with meat-based first courses, cold cuts and grilled meat
