Prior to being selected for the estate's prestigious trio of wines - Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, Les Hauts de Smith, and Le Petit Haut Lafitte - this wine undergoes a meticulous process. The blend consists of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The winemaking process involves fermenting whole grapes at a controlled temperature of 28°C in small wooden vats, with manual punching down to extract the desired flavors and aromas. Following fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in barrels, with 60% of the barrels being new and produced in our own cooperage. During this aging period, the wine rests on its lees, enhancing its complexity. After a single racking, the wine continues to age based on its unique profile. The vines used for this wine are an impressive 48 years old, contributing to its exceptional quality and character.
